Toei Animation announced a new Dragon Ball Super anime movie on Sunday, with Akira Toriyama penning and designing the characters. The movie is scheduled to open in theatres in Japan in 2022.
The Dragon Ball Super box anime, the sequel to Dragon Ball Z, aired in 131 episodes from July 2015 to March 2018. The first movie of the Superseries, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, opened in Japan in December 2018, grossing over US$12.3 million worldwide. It was nominated at the 42nd Japan Academy Film Prize in the Animation of the Year category.
